Waimea College is one of the South Island’s largest secondary schools, yet we offer you the warmth and encouragement of a small school. About Richmond

Waimea College is located in Richmond, with a population of around 55,000 people in our Tasman District, Richmond is considered a small and safe town for families. Richmond has a warm sunny climate and is well known for its high sunshine hours.

Homestay Families

As an international student you will live with a family in the Waimea College area. These families are carefully selected by our dedicated and experienced homestay staff, who regularly stay in touch with you and your family.

Outdoor Education

Waimea College is in close proximity to three National Parks, our region is an adventure-seekers paradise. It provides an incredible classroom for all students to experience exhilarating outdoor activities through our extensive Outdoor Education programme. Activities include caving, climbing, mountain biking, sea kayaking and tramping.

Homestay Fees

2026: NZD$340 per week
2027: NZD$350 per week

Special dietary requirements charged at an extra NZD$15 per week

Outdoor Education Fees

NZD$1,600 for four terms

Airport Transfer Fees

There is no additional charge for meeting students at the domestic terminal of Nelson Airport.

Uniforms

Basic uniform items are included in the tuition fee e.g., shorts, skirt, and jersey. Students are required to pay a NZD$200 security bond for their uniform items and this is refunded when the uniform is returned in good condition.

Additional personal uniform items such as shoes, socks, shirts and PE gear are not included.
