Taumarunui High School provides one of the most modern and innovative curriculums in New Zealand through our Big Picture Education model. Learning is project-based, hands-on, and tailored to each student, with a focus on creativity, collaboration, and real- world experiences.
Beyond the classroom, we offer an outstanding Outdoor Education programme. We also offer students the chance to be involved in Endurance horse riding at our local Arabian horse stud as well as access to New Zealand farm life for those interested. Students can also take part in a wide range of activities, including kapa haka, music, sport and drama.

Taumarunui is a friendly rural town in the central North Island surrounded by rivers, mountains, and native bush, it offers easy access to Mt Ruapehu and Tongariro National Park. Its size makes it safe, welcoming, and closely connected, giving international students a genuine New Zealand experience.
Homestay Families
Our homestay families provide a welcoming, warm environment where students quickly feel at home. Each family is carefully chosen to ensure safety, comfort, and genuine care. Living with a local family is a wonderful way to experience Kiwi life, share in everyday traditions, and create lasting bonds.
Outdoor Education
Our location in the central North Island gives students access to some of the best outdoor experiences in New Zealand. At Taumaruni High School, Outdoor Education includes white water kayaking, mountain biking, tramping in Tongariro National Park, skiing and snowboarding on Mt Ruapehu, and PADI certified scuba diving.
The programme combines adventure, assessments and leadership development.
School FEES
General Tuition Fees apply as shown in the Term Dates & Fees page.
Homestay Fees
2026: NZD$300 per week.
2027: NZD$315 per week.
Outdoor Education Fees
Outdoor Education Fees are covered by the school. There are no charges to International Students for participating in the school arranged Outdoor Education programme.
Airport Transfer Fees
Airport Pick up/Drop off: NZD$250 each way (from/to Auckland Airport)
