Dunstan High School is an excellent school for students who enjoy outdoor activities but who also want to do well academically. It is also set in a spectacular part the country and is excellent for those students who just want a very unique New Zealand experience.

Outdoor Education: Dunstan High School offers an award winning Outdoor Education Programme/Adventure based Learning Programme that includes skiing/ snowboarding, rock-climbing, challenge ropes course, hiking and kayaking. This is one of our general subjects and is often a highlight for International Students. These programmes are regarded bu many adventure specialists as amongst the best in New Zealand with a special focus on personal and social development.

Leadership Training: At Dunstan High School our highly respected unique Adventure Based Leadership Training has been independently researched on three occasions. Each time we have obtained outstanding results in terms of personal and social development, increase in personal confidence and ability to lead and work with others. This programme has an extremely positive reputation in the community and turns out youth leaders of the future. The school and the community provide many opportunities for trained students to contribute their skills.

General Subject: Accounting; Art-painting/photography/history; Biology; Physics; Chemistry; Calculus; Dramatic Arts; French; Design Technology; Economics; ESOL; Food and Nutrition; Geography; Graphics and Design; History; Hospitality and Tourism; ICT; Maori; Music; PE.

Sports/Cultural Activities: A world class golf course, international sized swimming pool and ice rink are located next door to the school. We also offer all of the traditional sports and clubs including football/soccer, rugby, cricket, netball, basketball, hockey, badminton, table tennis, chess, choir, drama, photography, debating, squash, ice-skating, tennis, athletics, rowing, equestrian, rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking and cycling. Our kayakers are also amongst the best in the country.

Cultural opportunities: Our Maori heritage is important to us and International Students are welcome to join our Kapahaka group to experience more of Maori culture. Students will also have the opportunity to travel within our region and living with a homestay family or in our boarding hostel provides an excellent opportunity for students to get to know New Zealanders and our way of life.
